Today was moving day. We moved from the Salem, OR area to Cape Perpetual on the coast. We had spent 6 days in Salem because it was easy to visit Kedric and Paul in Portland and also make the drive to the coast.

On Sunday, we spent the day in Portland. We were taken to a nearby nature area with miles of hiking trails. We went on a short hike and saw Mt. St. Helens to the north and Mt. Hood to the east. After the hike we had a tour of Portland and walked around in an area where vendors were set up selling food, crafts, and a variety of art work.

On the Friday past, we visited Cape Perpetua via car to meet some of the staff and volunteers and get the lay of the land. It was a grey, rainy day and the ocean views were ominous and spectacular. Today the weather was clear, blue sky and the view of the ocean was still ominous and spectacular. It was fairly windy, and the spray from the waves was picked up by the wind making it hazy appearing as we passed through the little towns. The VC is located high on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, and this evenings we hiked down to some tidal pools and a "spouting horn," The tide was in and was pounding the rocky shore creating awesome airborne plumes of surf. Pictures will be forthcoming in future blogs.

Tomorrow we start with an orientation. We then will work Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The volunteers we replaced worked Thursday through Sunday, and after our introductory time, we expect we will also work the same days.
