Today we finished our orientation. And, actually the volunteer coordinator was very good and spent lots of time with us making sure we were introduced to most everything at the VC and to the mysterious U.S. Forest Service ways. (We've have now volunteered with the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S Forest Service. They're all different. Having worked with a state forestry agencies, we made many comments about how rigid the USFS was and how they are bound to a manual that contains all of their SOP's and regulations. Now I know. There is truth in what we joked about.)

Anyway, orientation turned out to be a good thing, and the coordinator is articulate, dynamic, passionate, and all around much fun to be around. We'll see if that assessment holds going forward from here.

Tomorrow we have an off duty day, but on Saturday and Sunday we will be back at it. On those two days we will actually be doing visitor services rather than orientation. So far there seems to be staff and other volunteers around staffing the VC; so, we will not be by ourselves. Good thing for the Forest Service. It looks like our regular work shift will be 4 days: Thursday - Sunday.

But tomorrow is a day to sample some local seafood. Can't wait.
