Today was the big move-in day for the Labor Day Weekend. On our rounds this morning at about 7 a.m., we moved a lot of reservation cards to the top of the campsite markers indicating someone was moving into the site today. Between campers reserved for today or reserved starting tomorrow, the campground is suppose to be full.

However, don’t you just love however… It has been raining and really cold all day today. Tomorrow is also predicted to be more of the same. It’s now starting to get dark and the campground is far from full. We suspect people would be getting a late start waiting for school and jobs to be done for the week, but now we think folks may delay coming in until tomorrow. There will be no hot time in the old camp-ground tonight. This time there will be no complaints from us.

In the meantime, we have been watching the lake go down. Every day there is a noticeable drop in the water and an increase in shoreline and lake bottom exposed.

You can see in the photos where the water level is during the wet time of the year, and you can see lake bottom that normally is, ahm, covered with water. When we were here in May and even into June, the lake was completely full. In fact, staff said it was unusually high because the Bureau of Reclamation was holding back water so they could regulate its release to make more money generating electricity downstream. Agriculture irrigation is also a big user of the water in the lake; so, it stands to reason at this time of the year for the lake to be low. Lake level has not affected lake use. We still see lots of boats, both large and small, and people flock to the swimming beach. However, the swimming beach has significantly enlarged since June, and about once a week staff gather at the beach and move stuff closer to the dwindling water’s edge.

Shannon was surprised I was doing another blog today. She commented that we did nothing today. I reminded her that this blog is about nothing, and in so many things we do it reminded us of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry and George were writing a pilot script for their new TV show. George came up with the idea that the show should be about nothing. So, this blog is in good company.
