We are sleeping in the shadow of the Sleeping Ute Mountain which overlooks the Ute Mountain Casino and Resort at Towaoc, CO owned and run by the Ute Mountain Ute Indians on the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation. Is that a record for the most uses of the word Ute in one sentence? Things have slowed down…

Anyway, we are so close to the Sleeping Ute Mountain that I couldn’t get it in one picture. So I give you the head,

And then the feet.

We left Ridgway State Park at about 0830 this morning. Waved good bye to Dave, the other host in our campground, and Kenny, one of the maintenance staff and hardly looked back. We did not clean any campsites, and we did not cable the dumpster to discourage the imaginary black bear(s) in the campgrounds. We saw a dog run lose in the campground this morning and last night an unattended campfire. Since we were ordinary citizens, we looked the other way.

So, we are finished at Ridgway State Park. It is always bitter-sweet leaving a volunteer gig especially after 4 months. The mountains, although seeming a little lower than when we arrived, are still beautiful, the park is topnotch and we would recommend it to anyone traveling through the area, and we have fond memories or at least indelible memories of the folks we volunteered with. But we felt the pull of the open road even though we had to stop for a half hour for road construction on Dallas Divide and we just kind-of crawled up the hills, the siren song of the open road still called to us loud and clear.

And as a metaphor for the RVing experience, as we were getting ready to leave, we discovered we could not get our lights to work on our car. We are now pulling a car with no working stoplights and turn signals. But that’s the way it is with RVing. Nothing ever, and I mean ever, totally works and functions the way it should, and every unusual bump and noise sends RV-shivers up and down one’s spine just waiting for the time when roadside assistance is needed on some stretch of road where there is a “no service” signal on the phone.

RVing truly is an adventure.

The Horn's are feeling that pull also. It's been a long summer that has not allowed us to get away yet. But-we will be hitting the road the 19th for a few days as sort of a shake down run after the additions and modifications I made this summer. Then we will be leaving Oct 17 for Santee, making a few stops along the way. Have

Yup. Once on the road it's hard not to want to go on the road again. Glad to hear you're ready for a trial run. Hope all works well.

We blew into Pendleton behind a Low that had moved off to the east, but the wind and moisture wrap around was with us the entire drive. We ...
